IMPACT
Interfaith Movement Promoting Action by Congregations Together
Mission
IMPACT's mission is to bring diverse congregations together to create a greater degree of justice and fairness in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
Past Accomplishments
IMPACT had over 600 people at the Covenant Assembly in the Fall 2006. Public transportation and affordable housing were voted as the first two focus areas.
At the Nehemiah Action meeting in March 2007 over 1,600 people came together to secure commitments from public officials regarding improvements in the two focus areas.
This meeting, and follow up efforts, have resulted in significant victories: (1) a new bus route serving a major mobile home park and Albemarle Social Services offices began in March 2007, (2) Sunday bus service starting August of 2007, (3) an increased funding allocation from 1 million to 1.75 million dollars annually by Charlottesville City Council for an affordable housing program, and (4) IMPACT is bringing Charlottesville, Albemarle County and UVA together to address the affordable housing crisis collaboratively.
