Apply
The DART Organizers Institute is an elite training program to provide a point of entry for the best and brightest to enter the field of community organizing. We receive hundreds more applications each year than training positions we have available. Last year, DART received over 1,200 resumes and interviewed over 550 candidates, and finally selected only 21 Community Organizer Trainees. Our graduates have gone on to accept salaried career positions with some of the most effective, grassroots, congregation-based community organizations in the country.
We encourage you to begin our four step application process right now.
Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility
Please take a moment to determine your eligibility and register for our Career Listserv. GO
Step 2: Submit your resume and application
To complete your application, you must download and complete our application form and submit it along with your resume via email to: careers@thedartcenter.org before April 27, 2009. You may download the application in a Microsoft Word format here.
Step 3: Initial Phone Interviews
We will review your application and resume to determine if an initial interview is warranted. Whatever the case, you will receive notice by email or phone regarding next steps. Most candidates under consideration will be contacted asked to conduct an initial interview over the phone.
Step 4: Final Interviews
Top candidates will be selected from those initially interviewed to attend one of our final interview weekends (see dates and locations below).
- April 24-25, 2009 in Columbus, Ohio
- May 22-23, 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky
- May 29-30 in St. Petersburg, Florida
The final interview weekend serves two purposes. First, you will learn more about congregation-based community organizing and how the DART Organizers Institute will prepare you for a career in the field. We will present several exciting introductory sessions on topics such as how to build relationships with leaders, identify issues, and take successful direct action. We will also carve out ample time for you to ask questions. Second, experienced DART staff will get an opportunity to get to know you and determine your potential as an organizer.
You will undoubtedly find the final interview weekend enjoyable, challenging, and exhilarating. Past participants have always been inspired to see so many sharp and passionate people committed to justice in one room.
Following the interview weekend, you will be shortly notified of your acceptance into the DART Organizes Institute.
